Nothing I Can Say

Nothing I can say will make you feel any better; it's just going to suck for a while and then it will be fine.

This line sums up the knowledge I also came up with after years of people crying on my shoulder. It's just a simple way to cut through the bullshit, but it makes you sound like a ruthless jerk.

The line is from Margin Call.

Loving WhatFont!

WhatFont is a tool for instant font inspection in webpages.

We recently became acquainted and I think we're in for quite a ride together.
What the Chrome plugin lets you do is discover the used fontface of any element on any page on the web. It comes in handy for debugging as well, if you're into that kind of stuff.

Have a look at the screenshots of WhatFont in action:

Understanding The Bad Bits

WebKit does all of its painting on the CPU and then uploads the results to the GPU in the form of an OpenGL texture. This process is slow, but once you have that texture, it can be drawn to the screen incredibly fast. This is the key to native scrolling speed.

It's amazing to what great lengths people need to go to squeeze in a little more fps, to golf out a little more memory and to save a few more cycles.
